Wednesday March 10th:
Finally some good news on the financial field for the people that are going to Korea. After the Prins Bernard Fund had turned the application for sponsoring down, the Fund for Amateur Arts and Stage Arts decided on the application this week. This fund granted the application and combined with the sum Orient received from the KF Hein Fund, we have gathered a reasonable amount in sponsoring. When we add the amount gathered via the different fund raising events and activities (such as the Christmas pictures, the calendars, the lottery and the bake sale), we should be able to continue the preparations without having to worry about the money too much.

Sunday March 7th:
The first training session with the band Vranje in ‘t Praathuis from 09:00 till 13:00. After the rehearsal, pictures had to be taken of the members of the band that will be going to Korea with Orient. We chose a pretty setting by the river the Lek to take these pictures.

 


Saturday March 6th:
Some photographs of the visit to Marken by the ‘costume delegation’ led by mrs. Luutje de Waart. She has lived on Marken for thirty-four years and has always worn the original clothing of Marken. Mrs. Luutje de Waart has been living in Culemborg for several years now. She offered to wash the Marken-hats, which consist of many separate parts, and to put them back together for Orient. Mrs. Luutje de Waart will also make two new hats for the group. We have spent nearly two whole hours in the store on Marken on Saturday to search for the best ribbons and fabrics . With these materials we will be able to make two whole new costumes and six new aprons, what will result in an even more authentic look.
Tuesday February 24th:
Costume alterations: Tuesday night the 24th of February was very interesting. We learned a great deal about life on the isle of Marken and about the costume that originates from this island. Saturday the 6th of March the same delegation will travel to Marken with mrs. Luutje de Waart to purchase several kinds of fabric, ribbons and other materials in order to finish making two new costumes. The materials will also be used for the four costumes that have already been made.
